Life Lessons from Audio Editing:  The Non-Negotiables

You are in a hurry.

You’re rushing out the door and as you’re walking toward your car, a thought drops into your mind: “Did I unplug the iron?”

Non-negotiable.

No matter how late you are to that meeting that might determine the rest of your life, you go back and check.

Here’s another one.

You want to hang a picture on the wall.  You measure, you drill the holes, you hang the picture and it is slightly crooked.

If you’re anything like me, that would be an eyesore, almost a form of torture to see it like that every day.

Non-negotiable.

It doesn’t matter how many holes I need to drill into that wall, I will have that picture hung on the wall perfectly straight.

That is one of the things audio editing taught me – some things are non-negotiable

It doesn’t matter how many tries it takes me to get it right; it doesn’t matter how out of time I am.

I always go to the very end of my resources and beyond for the non-negotiables.

I don’t negotiate based on what is possible.  I make it happen in spite of that.
