He wept.

Lazarus is dead, He said.

“My friends, this is an opportunity

for you to see who I am;

…to learn to trust Me.

Come, let’s go see him”, He said.

But all they heard was:

“we’re going back to the place where they threatened to kill us”

“Let’s go so that we can die with Him”, they said.

Their hearts were locked with fear.

And so, they went.

When they arrived, Martha came out to meet Him.

“If only you had come sooner”, she said

“Your brother will rise again” (He said)

“I know, on resurrection day!” (her heart was locked with disbelief)

“I am the Resurrection!”

I AM in front of you.

Then Mary came running.

She fell at His feet in tears.

“If only you had been here..”

He looked at her, she couldn’t see Him.

Her heart was locked with grief.

And then He looked around at people,

All of them absorbed by pain.

He shuddered with emotion.

And then He wept.

“Lazarus! Come out of the tomb!”, He said

And life came forth.

A miracle!

Why did He weep?

So many answers have been given to this old question.

But I still wonder..

Sometimes I hear His heart between His tears

Walking with Mary towards the tomb where Lazarus was sleeping.

“Oh Mary, you love me so

How come you cannot see Me?

I am The Life, The Resurrection;

I AM your miracle.

I feel your pain and your despair,

And it moves Me so deeply.

You hold inside a sea of tears, pain and disappointment.

If you could only remember –

I love you more than everything within you!

Would you, please, lift up your eyes

And look at Me?

I am right here in front of you.

Delivering your miracle.

But all you focus on is facts.

You choose to live in this despair

Regardless of My Presence.

I can’t decide instead of you

Your will is yours to move.

But I’m still here,

Still Me, still willing,

Carrying your freedom.
